Night runs are the new black! Over time, exercising at night has increased as there are many benefits to taking your running to another level – an after hours level. Electric Run will be hosted at night but don’t leave your habits behind after May 7th, keep it up till our next Electric Run ;)
1. Sleep like a baby
Some of us find it hard to catch a little shuteye even after a long full day out. Studies have shown that exercising close to your bedtime can produce higher qualities of sleep and to top it off, longer durations of uninterrupted sleep. These studies were compared to those who did a similar work out during daylight. As we work out, we release a particular kind of hormone that is the key element in making us drowsy. There you go, if you have problems sleeping on a regular basis – night runs might just be your new bestfriend.
2.Scale down those stress levels
Stress is that one psychological encounter that we just can’t avoid, especially when you have a dictatorial boss, problematic friend or just stuck in hours of traffic – best believe we want to punch something too. Well night runs can help you compress that anger in a positive manner. No one likes to go to bed feeling like the world has collapsed on their shoulders. Hint: strangling your pillow or your other half, does not have the same benefits.
3. Less chances of getting hurt
The probability of getting hurt while you work out might seem unlikely but in reality, it’s a problem that a lot of people encounter. Running at night reduces those chances because of the simple fact that we are active throughout the day. The core temperature of the human body is usually higher during the night compared to the mornings when your muscles are stiff. Since your body temperature rises as the day continues, it aids in performance levels and therefore gives us increased strength and speedy reaction times. We all need a little agility training; you never know when that swift move might come in handy!
4. Lose weight
Running at night will help you adapt to the big no-no to snacking! We all snack; we live in Malaysia where food is golden. We just can’t seem to say no to a little pisang goreng. Night running helps you lose weight when you’re distracting your mind with a run instead of running to the fridge during the wee hours of the night. We all snack when we’re bored, trust us – everyone does it. So fight that urge and don’t forget to avoid eating any carbs before your run.
In this hot humid country, we Malaysians would like to feel slightly easy and breezy – when it permits at least. Avoiding the daytime heat would definitely make or break the decision to even go outdoors for some. Even if the temperature drop doesn’t stray too far, overheating will not be an issue during the nighttime. Running during the nighttime takes the edge off or might I say – heat off!
6. Who doesn’t enjoy a little fun and excitement?
Running at night is different; it can be exhilarating! On another note, change is always a good thing and running at night gives us that heightened awareness of our surroundings. Think cat like – cats work good at night. Anyone feeling slightly intimidated by the dark? Well this is the perfect time to conquer that fear. A little thrill that daytime running can’t give you. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, then well, you’ll have to experience it for yourself!
