January 27, 2016
The Sam Willows have erupted from their small garage style jam outs to international waters over the past few years and we are more than excited to have them join us this March at The Bee in Publika. Siblings Benjamin and Narelle Kheng alongside their friends Sandra Riley Tang and Jon Chua is Singapore’s growing treasure band. Formed in 2012, The Sam Willows name derived from a fluke at best (according to them). They were required to have a stage name before performing and since then it has stuck and they have no intentions of changing it. They even met a guy named Sam Willows in Canada who knows all their lyrics by heart, but that’s a whole other story. With more than 80k subscribers on their YouTube channel, an album in their belt, title for the top 30 most downloaded on iTunes in 2013 and 2014; they have achieved the monster goal of what a successful YouTube artist represents.
In 2013, The Sam Willows had a great opportunity to work alongside 5-time Grammy award winning producer, Steve Lillywhite producer for U2, The Rolling Stones, 30 seconds to Mars to name a few. After working with Lillywhite for only a mere week, the band managed to harness an amazing record which gained the attention of over 20k views on YouTube after a week of posting it!
In 2015, The Sam Willows recorded their latest album – Take Heart, in Stockholm Sweden with producer Harry Sommerdahl. He has produced tracks for popular bands such as The Wanted, The Rasmus, The Pussycat Dolls and more.
Take Heart, their most popular single from the album, gained massive ITunes attention; which in turn has given them the title of ‘Singapore’s Best Artist on ITunes of 2015’ This album has been a long time coming, "We spent a lot of time on this because we wanted to put out something that we are satisfied with. The process is long, whether it's writing and rewriting songs or looking for the producer or sound we want. We didn't want to rush into it. This year, things just fell into place and Sony played a big part in helping to organise things." Stated Narelle Kheng. (Source: straitstimes)
The Sam Willows has worked with other names such as Kurt Schneider and even opened for the popular band ‘The Script’.
